You Said, We Did – Listening Month Update

Date posted: 21st October 2024

Today, 21 October 2024, Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) reported on core projects and campaigns which both TPT and Sight Loss Councils (SLC) have delivered from January 2023 – June 2024, as a result of what blind and partially sighted (BPS) people told us mattered to them in our nationwide survey in Listening Month 2022.

The Listening Month 2022 research, together with a survey by TPT’s Education team, have guided priorities and campaigns we focus on, projects we create and policies which will enhance better awareness of how blind and partially sighted individuals access goods and services. The Listening Month You Said, We Did 2024 report gives a comprehensive overview of events, campaigns, policy work, engagement, influencing and other events accomplished, as well as determining plans for remainder of 2024 – 2025. Those priority areas of focus include:

  • Accessibility of the Built Environment
  • Public Transport
  • Health and Social Care
  • Awareness of Vision Impairment
  • Employment and Benefits
  • Personal Confidence and Social Isolation
  • Accessibility of Retail and Services
  • Accessibility of Technology
  • Education and Learning.

Bhavini Makwana, Campaigns and Projects Manager at Thomas Pocklington Trust, said:

“Our Listening Month Project is very important to us, as listening to the voices of BPS people means that we can truly work on improving areas around a variety of themes and key priorities that matter the most to BPS people from different regions. Putting this report together just shows how both TPT and SLCs have listened and then delivered on projects which will enhance awareness of vision impairment, as well as influence for a positive change. The voices of BPS people shapes our strategy and therefore campaigns are planned accordingly. You will also learn about projects which have not been delivered yet but are planned to launch towards the end of the year and beyond.”

Listening Month Survey 2024

In March 2025, we will conduct a further survey, so that we can continue listening to BPS people, on what still matters the most from the themes above. This will ensure we are focused on the issues and challenges faced and that we prioritise our advocacy towards a more inclusive society.
