Guess what? Nominations for the Rodney Powell Awards are now open! These awards celebrate our amazing volunteers who are making a real difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people (BPS) across the UK.
These exciting awards are named after Rodney Powell, Thomas Pocklington’s great nephew who received an MBE for his services to BPS people. He was a trustee at Thomas Pocklington Trust for 37 years from 1983 to 2020, when he sadly passed away.
This year, we are thrilled to introduce a brand-new category – ‘Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering: Student Voice’. This award shines a spotlight on the incredible impact of Student Voice volunteers. It is a fantastic chance to recognise the next generation of passionate volunteers.
Award Categories for 2025:
• Volunteer of the Year: For that standout volunteer who has made a huge impact.
• Volunteering Team of the Year: Celebrating a team whose collaboration has led to amazing achievements.
• Campaign of the Year: For those who have led inspiring campaigns benefiting blind and partially sighted people.
• Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering: Student Voice (NEW): Highlighting a Student Voice volunteer who has made a lasting difference.
• Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering: Recognizing a Sight Loss Council member whose dedication has significantly impacted our work.
Nominations are open until midnight on 9 February 2025. Do not miss out! Our expert panel, including last year’s winners, will review submissions. Check our socials and website on 10 March 2025 to see if your nomination made the shortlist.
Winners will be announced at the awards dinner during the Sight Loss Councils’ Conference on 10 May 2025.
So, who is your top volunteer? Nominate them today! Whether it is an individual who has gone above and beyond or a team that has shown exceptional teamwork, let us celebrate their achievements! Submit your nominations here.
